Apparently 1830 is a restaurant, but I only found out this a few months ago. Since then I’ve eaten very good food at this superb and elegant colonial house, which has excellent service. It’s worth visiting and dining there but really I go for the salsa at night!

It’s outside so watch out if it is raining. If you dance salsa and want to shake your ass then come and show us what you’re working with.

Situated at the end of the Malacon, tourists are bussed in en masse on Sundays, which is not as bad as you might think, with crowd participation in line-ups and live bands that even after years I still enjoy, even if it is a little repetitive.

Student friends from Habana University attend on Thursdays – this is our dance night! Be sure to arrive after 10:30pm and don’t go on Fridays or Saturdays.

The cover is $2-3CUC and rum is getting expensive - around $15CUC for a bottle. Buy as a group and share.
